YUM  (Yellowdog Updater Modified )is an interactive, automated package manager to install, upgrade and manage packages( from online repositories) on Linux system.

In this article you will find the frequently used yum commands.

To update system

yum update

search for a package

yum search any-package

View information contained in a package

yum info any-package

Install a package

yum install any-package

Uninstall a package

yum remove any-package

list all the packages available in the data base yum

available yum list|less

list all the installed packages

yum list installed|less

list all the installed packages to be updated

yum list updates|less

Cleaning packages stored in /var/cache/yum

yum clean all

Group install

yum groupinstall “groupname”
